What is Circular Economy and why is it important to practice it?
23 de Set de 2021

Circular economy is a concept in which we associate economic development with practices of reusing the raw material found in the products we consume on a daily basis. More and more companies are seeking alignment with this economic model, which aims at an intelligent use of resources and investment in products that can be reused, recycled after a certain period of time. Imagine an ECO Strap strap, for example, whose focus is to serve as an accessory for musical instruments. With the end of the belt's life, it can be crushed and its components reused to manufacture other products. In this way, waste of raw material is avoided. As a consequence, there is no need to extract natural resources. Another example to illustrate the circular economy is the use of electrical wires in jewelry production.

Impact for companies

According to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the concept of circular economy is an economic system that uses a systemic approach to maintain the circular flow of resources, through the addition, retention and regeneration of their value, contributing to development sustainable.”

At a time when the scarcity of natural resources is an alarming reality, as well as the economic fragility in which we find ourselves, it is urgent to adopt and expand this model.

It is estimated that in Brazil each year more than R$ 8 billion in materials go to landfills and dumps instead of being recycled. The information is from the Institute for Applied Economic Research (Ipea).

The circular economy model has a direct impact on the environment, however, it is also very favorable for companies. According to the National Confederation of Industries (CNI), in 2019, around 76% of Brazilian companies have some practice within the circular economy model. The main ones are: water reuse, material recycling and reverse logistics. Impact on the environment A 2019 Ellen MacArthur Foundation report points out that the circular economy model in the materials industry could reduce the level of greenhouse gases by 40% by 2050. In the food industry, this level could reach the 49% mark in the same time course. However, this model - which is already widespread, will only have the desired impact if society creates awareness of what the circular economy is and adopts it based on the consumption of products made from this concept. From the habit of consuming products made to be recycled and reused, it is possible that more and more brands are engaged with this purpose. Currently, the Earth would need to have 1.7 times more resources to handle what we use. In other words, it is past time to redefine the form of consumption, the destination of what we consume and what is made from what we discard. Here at ECO Strap, our products are completely reusable. One of our brand's guidelines is to leave a better world for future generations. Who else is in it?
