Meatless Monday: global movement to reduce meat consumption is already a reality in more than 40 countries.
06 de Set de 2021
The Meatless Monday movement proposes a reduction in the consumption of animal meat. The initiative aims to alert the population about the need to reduce the consumption of animal protein in everyday life, inviting people to stop eating meat, at least once a week.
Currently, more than 40 countries - including Brazil, are supporters of Segunda Sem Carne. One of Meatless Monday's main ambassadors – Meatless Monday's original name – is Paul McCartney. In 2009, he and daughters Stella and Mary McCartney took action to reduce the consumption of animal meat during meals.
Environmental impact of animal protein consumption.
The debate about the consumption of animal protein by human beings goes beyond the food issue. About 15% of the gases emitted into the atmosphere – which impact the greenhouse effect, come from the flatulence of cattle.
It is worth remembering that, currently, Brazil is the fifth country in the world that emits the most greenhouse gases.
Another impressive data concerns water consumption. If to obtain 1 kilo of corn, 1500 liters of water are needed, to obtain 1 kilo of beef this number rises to 15000 liters of water.

Habit changes help the planet
You must have been surprised by the alternatives that arise every day for those who give up meat consumption, right? From vegan hamburgers to non-milk chocolate, the variety of options developed in recent years is impressive. It turns out that much of the cuisine is also aware of the need we have to reduce the consumption of beef. And what do we have to say about it?
That it would be very interesting if we could all at least try to reduce our daily meat consumption. That's why Meatless Monday is so important. Brazilian society is culturally a consumer of animal protein, and giving up this eating habit is not the easiest of tasks.
Therefore, trying, at least on Mondays, this change of habit, is something we should consider. What if we leave food and also adopt the option for synthetic materials?
Here at ECO Strap, we've created the world's first line of sustainable and vegan musical instrument straps.
We believe that the future starts now, with reflection on our eating habits and daily consumption.
If you want to know more about the purpose of the ECO Strap, you are invited to read this presentation, which deals with the commitment to future generations.
By the way, what world do we want to leave to our children and grandchildren? Learn about this text here on the blog.
